What is Leading for Accountability?

How much accountability resides in your firm? Are you leading for accountability? If not, are you worried about high turnover, low morale, finger-pointing and other employee issues? Leading people is one of the toughest challenges facing professional service firms today.

For the past 20 years, our firm has been involved in organizational change, from mergers and acquisitions to restructuring to handling heavy turnover. In each case, a central question has always been how to maintain employee commitment and lead for accountability in the midst of constant flux.

Today, employee accountability and engaging the minds of employees in the work of their firms has never been more important. The rapid expansion and contraction of the workforce as the country has moved along an economic roller coaster has eroded employee loyalty. Along with it, employee accountability and commitment are being tested to the limits. What is needed is no less than a collective change in how we lead for accounatbility.

I have been in your shoes, leading a 30+ person professional services unit with a $12M annual revenue. When I was asked to lead the unit, it was characterized by 35% turnover, no leadership and declining revenue.

Two years later, turnover was zero and revenue and morale were steadily improving. It is said that if you want to change behavior, change the way people think. Lead for accountability. It works.

We explore employee behavior and other elements of accountable workplaces in greater detail throughout these pages; We also provide information about the changing face of leadership as well as some side notes about human and organization behavior. We explore the question of why people do not always do what they say they will do -- a topic that has been the subject of debate for thousands of years and the focus of hundreds of experts.

We summarize a few theories throughout the site and provide practical advice about managing people more effectively. So, look around. Take advantage of our free report (Below). And if you have a question about accountability or leading people more effectively that has been bugging you, shoot us an email and we will do our best to answer.
