Leadership Characteristics in Effective Leaders
What leadership characteristics do you most admire? What qualities are important in a leader? Are efective leaders charismatic? Inspirational? Not all experts agree on the same list. But while the lists among experts vary, several share similar traits.
Many people would agree on the following leadership characteristics as important: - A Visionary: Able to see clearly into the future and describe clearly how the firm will operate, the markets it will serve, and the services it will provide.
- Inspirational: An important leadership characteristics is the ability to get people fired up about the vision.
- Respected and Respectful: An effective leader is someone you can trust and respect and who treats everyone else with respect. This suggests a certain humility.
- Leads by Example: A great leadership characteristic is the willingness to do whatever he or she expects others to do.
- Experienced/Skilled: An effective leader is skilled at the job of being a leader.
- A Good Student: An effective leader has the ability to learn from his or her mistakes and the ability to learn from others.
- Empowering: Permits people to do the job they are expected to do; does not micromanage.
- Supportive: Provides encouragement, advice and secures the resources needed to do the job.
- Storyteller: Able to connect with people at all levels and link every employee with the strategic direction of the enterprise.
- Motivational: The effective leader helps people believe in themselves.
